St. Joseph's Cathedral, Hanoi

#6 of 37 in Historic Sites in Hanoi
Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Landmark
Explore a Catholic spiritual haven designed in the Neo-Gothic style at St. Joseph's Cathedral. Built more than 120 years ago with stone slabs and bricks, the structure resembles Notre Dame in Paris and represents one of earliest structures erected by the French colonialists. As you arrive at the site, notice the two square-shaped towers, each fitted with five bells. Inside, observe arched windows fitted with stained glass, and notice how the vaulted ceiling resembles those constructed in medieval Europe. Expect limited visiting hours, especially during religious ceremonies. • The church was lovely during Christmas period. There were decorations outside and the streets around were lit up. A must visit as the inside was pretty as well.  more »
  • This is one of the MUST visit tourist destinations in Hanoi. Beautiful church build more than 100 years ago. Expect lots of tourist and local taking photos at this place. Sit and relax while enjoying the beauty of the church and its architecture. Plenty of shops sidewalk cafe beside the church for you to relax and enjoy a cup of Vietnamese coffee while admiring the beauty of the church. Feel free to attend the church service of you can. The inside of the church is as beautiful as its external facade.
  • Beautiful, classic cathedral in Hanoi. I was here at Christmastime, and the whole area was decorated with lights and a life-size nativity scene. At the time, the inside was not accessible (probably because of Christmas services). The area nearby the church is filled with great cafes, shops, and is within walking distance of the lake.
