Chua Tran Quoc, Hanoi

4.2
Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
View the ornate architectural style of Chua Tran Quoc, the oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi. King Ly Nam De commissioned the temple's construction on the bank of the Red River in 541, which took four years to complete. In 1615, King Le Kinh Tong transported the temple to the Kim Ngu islet. When touring this historic complex, take note of its pagodas' red color, which indicates prosperity and luck, as well as the many 17th-century relics, symbolic flower statues, and Indian Bodhi tree. The water surrounding the site makes it particularly photogenic. Arrange your visit to Chua Tran Quoc and discover more family-friendly attractions in Hanoi using our Hanoi trip planning tool.

  • A must visit. Oldest Buddhist Temple in Hanoi. Top 3 most beautiful temple in Hanoi. You can take a Grab to get here.  more »
  • This pagoda is over 1500 years old! It is located on an island in the West Lake. Lots to see there and the views of the city are nice as well.  more »

  • Very beautiful. The lake is stunning setting. A little quieter and able to appreciate without quite so much noise! The tourist hop on hop off bus stops here, was a pleasant way to be introduced to some of the more well known sights. The pagoda is definitely worth seeing, not just for a quick pic.
  • There may be some amazing history I was not aware of, but when you compare this temple against some of the others in SE Asia it’s definitely rather average. I enjoyed my visit and admired that there was an active practicing Buddhist community there. I wouldn’t suggest going to far out of your way to visit.
