Explore the complex of Citadel Kunya-ark, a 17th-century fortification that served as the residence of the Khiva Khans. Commissioned by Arangh Khan in 1686, the sprawling settlement stands atop even earlier structures. Today, several of the historic buildings remain preserved, including the mosque, mint, and throne room. Take a guided tour to get the most out of your visit and learn about the fortress' rich history. Admire the intricate blue tile-work that adorns the structures, and climb up to the top of the tower for an expansive vista of the city. Kunya Ark is impressive with its huge entrance gates and wall. You can access the wall and walk park way around and see views over Khiva. Watch your step on the wall. No Healthy and Safety in Uzbekist... more »
grear views, blue tiles dovpration, very old, one feels like inside the tales
Arang-khan began the construction of the citadel Kunya-ark in 1686 at the western gates of Ichan-kala. The ark has a complex multi-yard composition, containing a house for khan, family, and dignitaries. From the large numbers of constructions of the ark only several buildings of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century were preserved. The view from the top of the Ark is impressive and worth to spend some time there.
