Castillo Pittamiglio, Montevideo

Admire an impressive Modernist landmark, cultural center, and museum at Castillo Pittamiglio, home of architect Humberto Pittamiglio from 1910 until his death in 1966. The building's design was an ongoing process intentionally left unfinished when Pittamiglio died. Consider the symbolism of the curious sculptures curling around the main building, and take a tour of the interior to see oddly shaped rooms, doors that lead to nothing, and interesting color and material choices. The life of the architect remains the source of much mystery, and the museum addresses several rumors that surround the man and his work. • I would like to evaluate better, but the guided tour is only at 17 hours and I have not seen goodwill in the attendant to inform me other schedules. As I was a little far from my lodging I could not return. That's all I can say about external architecture, wonderful.

  • It's not a ride for anyone. But for those who like the study of the symbols, semiotic, hermetic traditions, initiatic and Alchemical is a paradise. It is a book of alchemy written on Stones by the great architect and alchemist Humberto Pittamiglio. It is a magical place, like the Quinta da Regaleira, in Sintra, and few others that exist around the world.

  • Enchanting Historical Experience. Interesting Architecture. Great Service and Delicious Food. I'll Be Back!
  • The architecture is not as great as the story of the man who created the building. The guide knows a lot and seems really friendly, but he spends way too much time talking about symbols. Yes, there’re symbols everywhere, but there’s no need to pay attention to all of them. Unfortunately, the building is only partially restored and there are many parts that need a lot of work yet. I imagine that visiting this building can be a nice thing for architects, but for most of us the most interesting part is the story behind it.
