The Revolutionary War comes to life at American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, a living-history museum located near the battlefield where American and French forces secured the new nation's independence in 1781. The center's signature display features an early draft of the Declaration of Independence, which was produced in Boston before members of Congress signed another copy of the document. Outside the center you can explore an army encampment, that's been created to provide visitors with insight into the private lives of soldiers who fought and died for the cause of independence. At another outdoor exhibit, a reconstructed 18th century farm, you'll hear the story of ordinary American farmers struggling to survive during this decisive period. • A must-see if you have any interest in the Revolutionary War. The exhibits are very well done, and not overwhelming. Don't miss the films; they are entertaining, while conveying the history quite well...  more »

  • Great place. Clean restrooms. Very well done exhibits with several videos in unique formats throughout the experience. The revolution-era farm and the encampment are really fascinating with excellent guides that give you good information. The musket firing and the cannon shot are well worth the experience.
  • Pros: fairly priced, interactive displays, simple food court, kind and knowledgeable staff, detailed museum Cons: rude and sarcastic workers in the gift shop I absolutely love this museum, don't get me wrong. The outdoor exhibits are delightful and the people working them are very knowledgeable and friendly. I saw how they harvested the crops and even shot canons! The inside museum is very extensive and offers a detailed over view of our independence. I loved the many movies (very well done) and interactive media. What I did NOT enjoy was the absolutely unnecessary attitude of the woman in the gift shop. The sarcasm and rudeness that I was met with was incomparable, and I live in Philadelphia (home of rude people). The gift shop was closed (which was not made clear by their OPEN doors). When I walked in, she bluntly informed me they were closed with the attitude and sarcastic face of a dissatisfied teenager being made to clean their room. When I politely apologize and said I didn't know they were closed and assumed they were open until 5:30 (like most gift shops), she interrupted with "not here. In Williamsburg Virginia. In Newport News. I want to go home!.... come back tomorrow." and scoffed. It was 5:03. There are ways to talk to people and there are ways NOT to talk to people. She chose the latter. I'm saddened to see my wonderful experience tarnished and ruined, at the end of the day, by the salty, curt, and discourteous demeanor and attitude of this woman. If one is going to have a career in customer service, one should learn how to, at least, courteously speak with customers. I will not be returning to simply buy a spoon. I pray she gains more insight into furthering her career by simply being kind.
