Williamsburg

4.1
Colonial Capital
Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years. Today, the city's tourism-based economy remains centered on the 120 hectare (300 acre) historical district, the country's largest open-air museum, containing hundreds of restored and reconstructed buildings from the colonial period. The city is home to the College of William and Mary, the second-oldest institution of higher education in the country, which taught three American presidents and many other key figures in the nation's early history. Williamsburg also contains many modern tourist attractions, including two major theme parks. With the Inspirock international travel planner, Williamsburg and other destinations across the globe can be made central to your personalized travel plans.
