Tudor Place is a Federal-style mansion in Washington, D.C. that was originally the home of Thomas Peter and his wife, Martha Parke Custis Peter, a granddaughter of Martha Washington. Step-grandfather George Washington left her the $8,000 in his will that was used to purchase the property in 1805. The property, comprising one city block on the crest of Georgetown Heights, had an excellent view of the Potomac River.Make Tudor Place a part of your Washington DC vacation plans using our Washington DC trip itinerary maker tool.
Tudor Place reviews
This is a lovely home and definitely worth seeing. Being very familiar with the history of the house and it's occupants I was surprised to be given incorrect information from the tour guide who... more »
The house is beautiful. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. We enjoyed learning about the Peter family and their ties to George and Martha Washington. more »
Such a good one hour tour! Amy was very knowledgeable and invited us to ask questions on everything which made the tour a bit longer! 10$/adult Worth visiting the gardens and explore smokehouse, carriage house, etc. If in Georgetown and you've seen the main attractions, this is a different options. Be mindful that the tour may be difficult for young children and elderly for lack of sitting and moving space while visiting historic rooms.
The house certainly surpasses the gardens in worth as an attraction. House tours are given on the hour and last about an hour. The ends of the house were built in the late 18th century. The center of the structure was built in the 1800s. The house remained in the same family until only a few decades ago. Many of the objects and furniture in the house have great historical significance; some were owned by George Washington. Our guide for the house tour (Elizabeth) was excellent. If you like early American history you will greatly appreciate this historical home. We visited on a Wednesday morning and there was ample street parking, but there was a 2 hour limit.
