Studio Theatre is Washington’s premier venue for contemporary theatre, “where local audiences will find today’s edgiest playwrights” (Variety). Studio produces the work of today’s greatest writers, augmented by occasional productions of modern classics. Studio's work is marked by its emphasis on excellence in acting and design, and the signature intimacy of its four theatres, all of which seat fewer than 225 patrons. The quality of this work has been recognized over its 36-year history by sustained community support and 60 Helen Hayes Awards for excellence in professional theatre.Work out when and for how long to visit The Studio Theatre and other Washington DC attractions using our handy Washington DC road trip planner.

The play I went to see here was great, I enjoyed it a lot. The actual theatre was very small, but personable. My only complaint was the bar was very mediocre and overpriced. The actual theatre is great though. Do recommend.
We're lucky in DC to have so many good theaters. Studio was renovated a few years ago and has several stages available at once for plays. Most of them have seats that wrap maybe two-thirds around the stages. The stages are pretty small, but large enough to be effective. A lot of the plays here have small casts, maybe just three people, and they're almost all modern plays by new, respected playwrights, and the plays aren't so ... experimental as you might see elsewhere. The actors are quite talented and the plays are almost always very good. There is an occasional rare clunker, but season tickets are definitely worthwhile!
