The Kreeger Museum Reviews
セザンヌとナルシス・ディアズ・デ・ラ・... more »The home of David Lloyd Krieger, the owner and art enthusiast of the insurance company GEICO, has been open to the public as a museum after his death. Two stories. The first floor and the basement are the exhibition rooms, and the second floor is the staff room. It is a collection of more than 200 pieces, but it is top notch as a personal collection. Picasso and Monet had nine works each. Corot's "Aras's Carriage" is a masterpiece. I was impressed by the fact that there were two still-life paintings of Van Gogh's flowers. The flowers in the vases of Cezanne and Narcis Diaz de la Pena are also interesting with a touch that they can't see. Milo's room in the basement is also unique. Sculptures were scattered in the garden and indoors.
Housed in a Phillip Johnson designed building, this collection includes European Impressionists( 9 Monets) and modern artist, Picasso and Miro. A lovely small museum with beautiful grounds. more »
It is hard to imagine anyone lived in this temple of art with it's marble walls and floors. Our guide explained architect, Philip Johnson had stopped designing private homes but offered to build them a museum instead. It was outfitted with lighting and other features which made the transition from residence to museum an easy one. Our guide was amazing, genuinely the very best museum guide either my husband or I ever encountered. She was well informed, engaging, and provided a balance of art history, interpretive commentary, and some tidbits of trivia. The outdoor sculpture garden had a few very good pieces in it. This feature seems new with freshly created paths. If they continue to work on it, it will be a valuable edition to what is already an excellent museum.
A hidden gem in the Washington DC Art Scene. We were invited there for a corporate dinner presentation, but it gave us a chance to see a variety of great art work from modern masters to classic artists. Thrilled to see the work of living local Washington DC Artist Betsy Stewart in their permanant display. This used to be open only by appointment to private groups, it is now a public museum.
