Saint Dominic Church reviews
Can't remember ever seeing anything but the top of this church hidden away and surrounded by tall government buildings. This building built in the 1800s by the Dominicans is quiet and beautiful with.... more »
I stepped in as I passed nearby. I’m glad I did. An organist was practicing. Beautiful interior. Well kept and well illuminated. It was a treat. My thanks to the church. more »
Look at some of the pictures of St Dominics. This is the church where I was baptzed, and married in the 1950's and 1960's. This is also the church where my grandmother cooked meals for the priests, also where my mother, and two sisters attended school, and this is also the church where my grandmother became a Dominican nun, (the Dominicans had a group of nuns who were widows). She was a Dominican nun until her dying day at age 86. This church holds many special memories for me. I can also remember, as a young girl, my uncle Raymond, my mother's brother, singing Ava Maria here during Christmas eve mass. My grandmother Hawk's house was directly across from St Dominics (504 6th St, SW). It was torn down in the 1960's to mke room for the SW Freeway and the SW area Federal Govt renovation. The house was from 1890's with 4 floors and a Parlor. My grandmother would host bingo games for St Dominics in her Parlor to earn money for the church. Such wonderful memories. Wish it were all still there. The old days of DC.
Nice place close to work for Mass. I wish they would do something with the apse; it is so plain. It needs color.
