State Park · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Colleton State Park is a 35-acre (0.14 km2) state park located along U.S. Highway 15 between St. George and Walterboro, South Carolina, United States. The smallest state park in the state of South Carolina, Colleton's main attraction is recreational access to the Edisto River in the form of paddling or fishing. Several campsites for RVs and tents as well as some team-sport recreation facilities are also located in the site. For many years, the park was underutilized due in part to an adjacent SCE&G coal-fire power plant, which discouraged many potential visitors from the park. The power plant was closed by SCE&G at the end of 2012. Local officials hope to potentially acquire the site and expand the park.

  • Wonderful canoeing and picknicking! Helpful staff. They provided complimentary shuttle service for canoeing. The only payment they would accept was a donation to the state park.  more »

  • If you're looking for a breath of fresh air, look no further. Colleton is just far off the main road enough to feel completely secluded in the wildness, but not so far that you will spend more than a few minutes getting to it. Well worth a stop! The sites are spacious enough, well priced at ~$25 (for what I had- a camping spot), the river is a stones throw away, refreshing and beautiful ! Highly recommend walking to the canoe dock or river access during your stay. The volunteers are very helpful and friendly. The camp hose drove me to the front office to settle my payment and then drive me back to my site so I didn't have to walk. Very kind! Great for a casual bike ride and/or long board rides. 5 stars!
  • Rented cabin. Private fire pit back yard area. Could use added fire pit in front area. Ranger Larry is the best Park Ranger I have met so far on all of my travels. He’s professional, polite and willing to do the extras. My kids Loved Him and still talk about him and ask when we can go back to see him.
