Big Bone Lick State Historic Site reviews
This was a stop on our road trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. We ate at the picnic area, then checked out the museum (mask required and they will provide them for you), diorama pit, and bison herd... more »
Free state park a few miles off the interstate. Nice museum and gift shop in visitor's center. Take a .25 mole walk from there to see the bison in a big, fens3d field. The museum had fossils... more »
Excellent place to take little ones hiking for the first time. There are many trails that are a perfect length for beginners or ones for seasoned hikers. The bison trail was super fun for our little ones because you can see the bison up close. There's a neat little visitor center with some history of the area and artifacts. There are picnic tables for lunch and a playground that the kids loved playing on. Excellent park and so close to the city! Definitely looking into camping there soon!
Excellent State Park tucked back off the main roads of Boone County. I love coming here for a long hike throughout the numerous trails. There's an amazing lake you can walk around or a bison reserve that you can stop and admire the massive beasts at. Oh, and if you're looking to stay a while there is a camp ground with rv parking and water hookups. Definitely recommend.
