The Highland Light (previously known as Cape Cod Light) is an active lighthouse on the Cape Cod National Seashore in North Truro, Massachusetts. The current tower was erected in 1857, replacing two earlier towers that had been built in 1797 and 1831. It is the oldest and tallest lighthouse on Cape Cod.Add Highland Light to your Truro travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Truro vacation planner.
The grounds are open year-round, while the light is open to the public from May until late October, with guided tours available. Highland Light is owned by the National Park Service, and was cared for by the Highland Museum and Lighthouse, Inc. until 2014 when Eastern National, another non-profit group, took over the contract to operate the facility as a tourist attraction. The United States Coast Guard operates the light as an aid to navigation. The United States Navy ship USS Highland Light (IX-48) was named after the light. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Highland Light Station.
Highland Light reviews
We stopped here in the misty fog, parking free at the closed Highland House Museum(also restrooms were closed). The level 100 yard walkway took us to the relocated 1872 39’ lighthouse that is... more »

Awesome lighthouse with a lot of history and national significance that offers very interesting information from a great staff. Only a few minutes from Provincetown and the beautiful National Seashore... it has long visiting hours and frequent guided tours that make this a very easy place to experience, and if you like lighthouses, it's not to be missed!
Parents beware, you cannot assist your child while climbing up or down the lighthouse. We were recently on our family vacation and stopped at this lighthouse. Several of us decided to climb to the top of the lighthouse. My 7 year old was excited but nervous about the climb however he did great climbing all the way to the top. When it was time to come down he became scared to climb down the ladder and had some difficulty. I put my hand up to reassure that I was there and the older woman yelled at me telling me that I could not do that. She was obviously irritated with my son and was making faces. Finally, as he reluctantly came down the ladder I helped him. The older woman began shouting at me, stomped her feet and clapped her hands saying that was not allowed in this lighthouse. Fortunately, we were able to get down the steps without further incident. This older woman was rude and miserable from the time we got up to where she was.
