#3 of 34 in Parks in Tampa
A nonprofit sanctuary for rescued wildcats, Big Cat Rescue is home to more than 100 big cats, such as tigers, bobcats, and a liger. The shelter has rescued many abused or abandoned wildcats, including Skip the bobcat, which came in with a broken pelvis. Skip's surgery and recovery was made possible through donations from people who saw his story on Facebook and other social media sites. Take a day tour, night tour, or even a feeding tour of the rescue center. Just be sure to book online or call the center in advance if you would like to visit. • It's not like a normal zoo or attraction. Their focus is on their rescued big cats and their happiness. They have tour groups you can join and they walk you through the rescue explaining the history of all the cats you see. It is a very informative tour and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Unlike most zoo's. This rescue doesn't force it's animals to be seen. The cats come out if they want and if not they have plenty of hiding places to live out the rest of their lives in comfort. It's also very affordable and all proceeds go to the needs of the rescued cats.
  • Went on the keeper tour. We loved it and the work they have put into the rescue center is amazing. Staff are great and very knowledgeable. The 2 hour tour may have been a little long on my 10 year old, but the 12 year old loved it. For 2 hours it may be a little expensive but I think it's well worth it.
