Fairy Stone State Park, located in Patrick County, Virginia, is the largest of the original six state parks that opened on June 15, 1936, and is home to the mysterious "fairy stones", or staurolite. The stone, prevalent in the region, may have the St. Andrew's or Roman shape.Ask Inspirock to suggest an itinerary and make planning a trip to Stuart fast, fun, and easy.
The park's land was donated in 1933 by Junius B. Fishburn, former president of the Southwest Virginia Trust Co. and former owner of the Roanoke Times. The park is 4,741 acres (19.19 km2), making it the largest of the six original parks and one of the largest to this day. Some of the park's features, including its lake and many structures still in use, were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Fairy Stone State Park reviews
It's definitely out of the way. The ranger was very nice about explaining where the fairy stone gathering walk was and so we bought a couple of things in their gift shop. We drove to the location and.... more »
We stayed at a cabin at Fairy Stone State Park for 5 nights in August, 2020. We were in cabin #16, a 2-bedroom cinderblock cabin. We had an excellent stay. The cabin was clean, everything worked... more »
The staff are all super nice, very clean facilities. A wonderful place to take your family for some fun & sun! Pack your cooler and take your charcoal for a cookout (NO ALCOHOL) or grab ya some food in their deli with a great variety to choose from and good prices!! They have a souvenir shop but also floats & fun accessories for the lake. Paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, stand up boards (not sure of the technical name) can be rented for a small fee. Play area on land and in the water for children! Life guards on duty! I've been going there for years and could go on and on about this place...but you need to go to see for yourself!!
Nice place, very scenic, great place to get away. Going there is similar to going back 50 years in time. If you want quiet and solitude this is where to go. THERE IS NO CELL SERVICE. Know this before you go. We stayed in cabin 21, right on the water. It was very nice but the sofa and matched chair, both crate furniture, were the worst and most uncomfortable ever. Unfortunately most services are not available after Labor Day so take your own boat, no rentals available.
