Mine · Tourist Spot
We are a quartz crystal mine that offers you a chance to play in the dirt and an opportunity to look for crystals.. We are also a commercial mine as well, so certain areas are off limits to diggers. This is according to MSHA and Forest Service. We have to abide by their rules..

So, with that out of the way, we try to offer you as close to a real mining experience as we can. Not all diggers like our mine, but this okay.. we can't please everyone and there are other mines that will be happy to show you their mine.

We have picnic tables, some shade trees, a plenty of dirt and rocks to look thru.. Fees are 20.00 for adults, 10.00 for ages 10-14 and 9 and under is free with paying adults.

We are primitive. No services, no running water, no cell service most of the time. There are some out houses at Washita corp camp ground and there is the Blue Bell in Story that is just a little over 2 miles north..

if you have any questions, need any special help or have some one with disabilities give us a heads up and we will do our best to help you, get you answers, or work with a special needs individual...

Thanks for letting me ramble on... hope to hear from y'all soon.

  • This place was really interesting. It’s out in the middle of nowhere, and there was only one other “miner” at the mine when we visited. I, personally, loved that about it. Large crowds make me...  more »
  • I went over a year ago they where still actively digging and suppling tailings. Drove over 120 miles to a no longer long time active mine. It was beyond horrible, they just cashed in everyone in, for....  more »

  • I’m not one to post reviews, but I had to give some praises to this place! Sweet Surrender is an absolutely amazing mining experience. Whether you’re a beginner or mine regularly, you will find something incredible! The reviewers that say you won’t find anything must have not done their research before arriving. There are great finds where the soil has been most recently turned over, but each time it rains sediment shifts as well...so there are crystals everywhere. Read up about how to dig and what to look for. The owners are wonderful and make the experience easy. $20 each, and you get to keep whatever you find. Remember sunscreen and bug spray, and bring gloves if you have sensitive hands. Bring an extra pair of clothes if you don’t want to get your car dirty. They have tools there you can use, but you can bring your own as well. Thank you so much, Sweet Surrender!
  • My wife and I went to the mine for their Summer Solstice dig. Overall, we were very happy with our experience - in part because of reviews we had read that helped us prepare for our day at the mine and temper our expectations for our time there. Sun shade (we used a small pop-up shelter), long-brim hats, gloves, and sturdy shoes are a MUST. We brought a large cooler with lots of water and our food for the day. A fanny pack or some other "wearable" you can put good finds in will help ensure they don't get damaged by other rocks you are piling in your bucket or bag. Pictured is a point I found just walking around that required about 5 minutes of working the dirt to get it out. Can't wait to go back!
