Although the Salt Lake Temple in the state's capital is more famous, St. George Temple is the first Mormon temple built in Utah after the religious group arrived. The brilliant white-plaster finish on its exterior creates a striking contrast with the surrounding red sandstone buttes that provided much of the building material. Head to the visitor center to discover the story behind the Mormons' journey from Illinois to Utah and the building of this temple. You can also take a free tour of the temple to learn about its three ordinance rooms and 18 sealing rooms. Keep an eye out for the cannon on the temple grounds--Napoleon used it in his attack on Moscow, and the piece traveled through Siberia, Alaska, and California before ending up here. It seems irreverent to "rate" a sacred religious site, but to share and experience should be appropriate. I've been to this temple several times and love the peaceful feeling that pervades the grounds and the visitors center. If you want to learn more about your creator and feel like you've stepped out of the chaos of normal life for a while then you should go to the visitor center and speak with the volunteers there. Learn the history of the early pioneers and the construction if the temple. They were instructed by God's holy spirit in the construction and the spirit can be felt while you learn about their struggles and accomplishments. Anyone looking for peace and answers to hard life questions should visit.

This temple is so fun to go and visit and learn about how it was built. The visitors center is amazing and so informative. Even if you are not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints the visitors center is a must visit. The grounds are so beautiful and if you are trying to decide to go visit this temple you better hurry it closes November 4, 2019 for an extended period of time. Just plan on a long wait to attend the temple especially if it is a weekend. Our wait time for the baptistery was 3 hours.
