Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, St. Augustine

#5 of 17 in Parks in St. Augustine
Historic Site · Park
See the possible landing site of Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon at Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park. St. Augustine is mainland America's earliest European settlement, and the park claims to be home to the spring from de Leon's account of his landfall in 1513. Though the fountain's magic has been questioned, you'll find the park has faithfully replicated and preserved early Spanish colonial and Native American buildings, including watch towers, houses, and burial sites. Learn about the active digs and excavations at the park, and get a glimpse of early U.S. colonial history, which spans 6 hectares (15 acres). Don't miss the displays covering the 2,000-year history of the local Timucua Indians. • My wife was hoping we could drink the water and come out in as toddlers. No luck!! Very interesting to see and learn about the area.  more »
  • St. Augustine isn't just about the Fountain of Youth, but the experience of drinking from the fountain is something you'll remember. That aside, there's nothing really flashy here, but a nice bit.....  more »
  • So they have the actual supposed Fountain of Youth there And that is pretty incredible! There's a ton of historic sites that were super worth checking out, the staff knows a lot of history which is a huge thing for me but you didn't have to take it tour to get the knowledge they were happy to just answer questions. It allowed me to learn about an interesting part of history at my own pace and really that's kind of a dream come true of an aspiring history nerd
  • It was really cool to see history come alive and see the famous fountain of life. This was one of my favorite stories growing up, and now as an adult getting to learn the real story was just as interesting! The reenactments were great and the presentations top notch. I highly recommend for anyone with even a passing interest in early American history and definitely for kids!
