Indian Cave State Park is a public recreation and historic preservation area covering nearly 3,400 acres (1,400 ha) along the Missouri River in southeast Nebraska. The state park preserves a cave with prehistoric petroglyphs as well as the partially reconstructed village of St. Deroin established in 1853 as part of the former Nemaha Half-Breed Reservation. The state park lies ten miles (16 km) south of Brownville and eight miles (13 km) east of Shubert, straddling the county line between Nemaha and Richardson counties.Put Indian Cave State Park and other Shubert attractions into our Shubert trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.
Some of the carvings within Indian Cave are believed to be several thousand years old, but their exact period and cultural affiliations are undetermined. The park offers 22 miles of hiking and biking trails, 16 miles of equestrian trails, camping, picnic facilities, fishing areas, and boating access to the Missouri River.

It's been over 10 yrs since our last visit. Brought back lots of good memories. Love the campgrounds here. So shaded. Was disappointed not being able to visit the cave but, nothing we can do about mother nature!

Updated for summer 2019: Trail Closures I normally would give this park 4 stars. Unfortunately almost every trail I enjoy is closed this year. 8a, 9, 10, 11 are all closed. Note you cannot access the cave area at all due to massive mudslide damage. I love getting hiking miles in and it’s so sad to see so many trails closed. I acknowledge that much of the damage was caused by nature, however this is one of the few places to really hike around here! I wish more finds could be prioritized to this park and its trails to get it fixed up. They also need to put a campaign in place to address visitors feeding wildlife. Raccoons all over the park are used to human interaction and are not afraid of approaching people. I still love this park and have high hopes to return it to a better rating.
