Point Lookout State Park is a public recreation area and historic preserve occupying Point Lookout, the southernmost tip of a peninsula formed by the confluence of Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River in St. Mary's County, Maryland. The state park preserves the site of an American Civil War prisoner of war camp and the Point Lookout Light, which was built in 1830. It is the southernmost spot on Maryland's western shore, the coastal region on the western side of the Chesapeake Bay.

  • One of the best campgrounds around. Great fishing, crabbing, and nature walks. Beautiful views and cool little tackle/marine shop. Would love to give them 5 stars, but go at the wrong time of year and the mosquitoes will wreck havoc on your trip.
  • We didn't stay at the park this time, but rather sailed our catamaran into Lake Canoy and anchored for the night. Beautiful sunset. Calm water with a nice breeze coming in off the Chesapeake Bay. Great anchorage but you have to be careful since there are plenty of shoals. Wouldn't be good for a boat that draws more than 3 or 4 feet.
