Sanibel Historical Museum and Village, Sanibel Island

A fantastic collection of buildings relocated to the historic village from where the ferry once stood. Most of the structures, houses, a school etc, all date from the late 1800s early 1900s. You can view the houses on your own but the guided tour brings everything to life. Our docent was a well informed local that was happy to share the history of Sanibel island and had many stories handed down from the old folks that lived it. I particularly enjoyed seeing the original Sanibel light and the personal shell collections of several of the early residents. my only regret is they didn't have much on the history of Captiva island.

Greatly enjoyed learning more about the history of Sanibel. We did a guided tour which was included in the price of admission. Our tour guide was very passionate and informative. Loved seeing all the preserved historical buildings!
