de Young Museum, San Francisco

4.4
Rebuilt after an earthquake, de Young Museum can resist seismic shaking with its striking twisted tower. This modern complex in Golden Gate Park holds collections of American and contemporary international art. Archives of American art dating back to the 17th century, including textiles and costumes, make the museum exceptional. Textiles come from as far away as Turkey, and the costumes showcase early fashions from designers such as Christian Dior. • We're heading from the Legion of Honor Museum. Bus 18 → Bus 38 → Bus 29 → We went on foot, so it should not be too far, but it took an hour. If you want to save time, I think Uber is good. We arrived and had lunch at a café on the first floor. Salmon salad, banana pancakes and drinks. The price is so-so, but it's a simple café in the museum, but it was delicious. It was also very crowded. I felt that there was a large percentage of African art at the exhibition. There were few exhibits of interest, but the food at the café was delicious, so the evaluation was good. The view from the observation tower was also beautiful. Please note that the location of the elevator on the observation tower is difficult to understand.

  • I was in the museum today and I was horrified by the way security was treating me! I am not a careless person, I appreciate and zeal for art but I was with a little backpack backed up on my shoulders (I have hernias in the spine, 50 years old and for me to make this back support is fundamental). Turns out they didn't allow me to use it that way and ask me to carry it with one hand!!! I saw a lot of young people with huge purses on one shoulder just walking in a displicant way and nobody said anything!!! Even in the little shop I was already tired came again to warn me!!! The museum is very beautiful but I sincerely lost all the charm with such a rude team. They could offer lockers and not talk to tourists in such a dry way. I've attended several museums around the world, but I've never come across such a poorly trained team.

  • The De Young museum is located on the edge of Golden Gate Park adjacent to the California Academy of Sciences. It us situated in a beautiful courtyard with 3 majestic fountains and beautiful landscaping. The De Young features a free lookout point at the very top of the building, which is a beautiful modern copper structure, a piece of art in itself. Featuring great variety of rotating exhibits and a vibrant permanent collection. Very much worth checking out and at a reasonable price, especially for students. Would definitely recommend.
  • I love the De Young Museum because, when I get into the quieter galleries, the museum has the feel of the "traditional" museums where it's hushed, and I can wander from gallery to gallery in that quiet atmosphere. It's nostalgic to me. (These comments are similar to the comments I made for the Legion of Honor.) I love it enough that I have decided to become a member. Special exhibits come and go; it's the permanence of the De Young that draws me in.
