Providing a home for 3,700 of some of the world's rarest animals, San Diego Zoo features pandas, gorillas, antelopes, orangutans, koalas, and much more. Noted for pioneering the concept of cage-free exhibits that recreate natural animal habitats, this zoo covers an area of almost 40 hectares (100 acres). Take guided tours on a bus, or hop on an overhead gondola to see the diverse habitats from the air. See different animals often found side by side in the wild, along with native plant life from places such as African rainforests and Arctic taigas. To view the collection of rare plants, visit the arboretum. Begin your visit at the visitor center, where you can pick up a free map. San Diego Zoo Reviews
A cool zoo. Lots of animals to check out and they have plenty of transport options (ie bus tours and cable carts) to get you around. I would recommend taking your own lunch - the food options are... more »
Large with many animals and birds to view. Have 2 tier buses for travels. Skytram was being renovated. If you walk, definitely the way to go but plan on a 15,000 or more step day more »
Absolutely love my time here! I met with wonderful Bria at the ticketing booth. She was so friendly, cheerful and helpful! Absolutely a delight to meet at the start of the day. It makes me feel wonderful to see all the koala 🐨 are so healthy. All the animal who were born in captivity are very happy with their environment. It good to know all the money goes to helping the animal who most needed. They have an amazing collection. Some of their animals, people search their whole life to see. Took the twilight tour, worth every penny. I saw an aye-aye with my own eyes and we get to stay until dark. we were the last 3 visitors allowed to stay after 5pm. San Diego Zoo is a must visit for San Diego.
It was an excellent experience. All the volunteers are very friendly and more than willing to help you get your way around. The restrooms are super clean. We really enjoyed seeing all the animals. I recommend to take the zoo bus tour as soon as you arrive to give you an idea where you want to go first. The zoo is awesome!!!
