When you need to know about the history of Ste. Genevieve, this is the best place. The museum is small but interesting. Also the collection in the museum give you information about this small town more »
My family and I had a wonderful time here. While they are still renovating and don’t have all their attractions opened yet, what they did have open was amazing and our tour guide was so nice and informative, he really knew his stuff and was great to talk to and learn about St. Genevieve and it’s history. All the dinosaur exhibits were incredible too, they have a great collection of artifacts and fossils. The gift shop had a lot of fun things in it & probably the most reasonably priced gift shop of all the places I’ve taken my kids. I highly recommend this place and look forward to coming back when everything is opened or maybe sooner.
The new Ste. Genevieve Museum Learning Center is the up and coming place to visit in the area. It is huge compared to the tiny museum it started as in 1935. The new location is just steps from the original building, but holds so much more. The Hall of Giants dinosaur exhibit is the main attraction, especially with young dinosaur enthusiasts. These dinosaurs are BIG in so many ways!! You will need to look up to see those big guys! The building holds several other exhibits as well, including ancient civilizations, mining, and agriculture. There is also an exhibit area focused on Ste. Genevieve history too (my favorite!!). At the present time, many of the exhibits are only partially filled, as work continues to make the museum an awesome experience for young and old. Tickets are reasonable and include an additional complimentary ticket to revisit, once the museum displays are completely populated. This is only for a limited time, though, so make sure to visit soon. After visiting the museum, consider exploring the historic area, which has recently been named part of the US National Park system. Also, if you are considering visiting in the summer, the newly opened water park in town (not the downtown area though) will add more enjoyment and fun to your visit.
