Philippe Park is a Pinellas County park located in Safety Harbor, Florida. The park is named after Count Odet Philippe, who is credited with introducing grapefruit to Florida. It is situated on 122acre that was once part of Philippe's plantation. Philippe was the county's first non-native settler, arriving in 1842. Philippe is buried in the park but the exact location is undetermined.
A Tocobaga Indian mound that is situated in the park is a National Historic Landmark known as the Safety Harbor Site.
The temple mound is one of the last remnants of the Tocobaga on the Pinellas Peninsula. Records indicate that Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, the founder of St. Augustine, Florida, visited the site in 1566 to help broker a truce between the Tocobaga and the Calusa to the south. During the visit Pedro Menéndez founded a Spanish outpost nearby, but by 1567 it was reported to have been wiped out by the Tocobaga. Eventually the temple mound was deserted. The Tocobaga succumbed to European diseases, and many were forced into slavery working in the Caribbean.

  • A beautiful tranquil park for a walk along the bay or just to sit and people walk. It appears to be a favorite for photographers due to the isolated areas and ever changing terrain. We visited daily.....  more »
  • We first heard about this park from a vendor who did our company picnics for us one year and decided to host ours at Philippe Park and I must say that I was not disappointed. It's in the same area as Safety Harbor and there is plenty of shades, picnic shelters and activities to do around here. There are also cops driving around so you definitely feel safe. There isn't much of a walkway here so you have to walk on the road or in the grass but my fur babies didn't mind and it's such a great and relaxing place to be. I love every visit to Philippe Park and there couldn't be a more safer park that I would feel safe at. Parking can be a little hectic at the picnic shelters but for the most part, there's a lot of areas where you can park. I definitely plan to return!
  • Beautiful and serene park right on the Bay. We usually bike by the water, but there are multiple shelters with bbq pits for rent everyday throughout the park. Kids playgrounds are awesome. Have visited this park several times and always find it to be very clean. It is located on picturesque Tampa Bay with many large shady oak trees with hanging moss. It has a nice play ground and a hiking path. It wasn't so busy that you couldn't find a place to park or a bench to sit on.
