Joe Wheeler State Park, located on Wheeler Lake, offers something for everyone; a resort lodge, a restaurant, cabins, camping, fishing, golf, tennis, swimming, convention/banquet facilities, transient slips and a marina.

Whether you're looking for a place to spend the weekend or a place to have the perfect wedding, Joe Wheeler State Park can be your dream destination. From small church groups to large conventions, our experienced staff can make your special occasion organized and stress free.

What do we offer that most hotel/cabins/campgrounds don't? Our cottages are right on the water with a breathtaking view. Wheeler’s cabins sit on a bluff overlooking the mighty Tennessee River, which is a mile and a half wide. Our hotel rooms are all lakeside with a direct water view. Campsites are nestled among towering pines and a great place for your family to enjoy. We have all this plus a setting of wildlife and nature. We try to offer your stay at a reasonable price, so you get good value for your dollar.

Located in Northwest Alabama, two miles west of Rogersville, off U.S. Highway 72, the park is approximately 50 miles west of Huntsville and 27 miles east of Florence. Interstate 65 and Athens are 22 miles east of the park.

  • Love this place. The people in front are so helpful and kind. They have everything u need right there. We stayed in the pick your own spot it has lots of trails and wake up to beautiful views. The beach is very clean and well kept. The bathrooms are nice and ac works great in there.
  • Northern Alabama has a great state park on the Tennessee River. Very large clean pool. Rooms are huge and well kept despite age. Take a river cruise and enjoy a lack of cell service as you get away from your day to day busyness. We enjoyed the restaurant on premises as well. It is not gourmet but the family ate well for supper and lunch.
