Jake Korell always had a love for the outdoors and was a long-time trapper. He and his family began creating full body mounts from the more notable specimens the family trapped and hunted for their own collection. This collection grew to encompass more than 60 mounts and the decision was made to give the public access. This eventually became the basis for the Wind River Heritage Center.

Over the years, many wonderful collections pertaining to Fremont County and Wyoming's history have been graciously given to or loaned to the museum. There is a life-like wax museum featuring features 27 scenes with life-like wax figures of pioneers, Native Americans, trappers, outlaws, cowboys, politicians, and inventors who were influential in our nation’s development. Other attractions at the Wind River Heritage Center include:

Jake Korell Antique Trap Collection

1900’s-Era Farm Equipment

Antique Saddle Collection

Trapper’s Cabin

Arrowhead Collection

Western Artwork

History Book Library

Gift Shop
