Cosmos Mystery Area, Rapid City

#1 of 6 in Fun & Games in Rapid City
Entertainment Center · Mysterious Site
Explore the mysteries of Cosmos Mystery Area, where water flows uphill and you can sit on a wall. The area was discovered by chance in 1952, and has drawn curious visitors ever since. On the tour, you can participate in the demonstrations of seemingly reversed gravity. The illusions created by the natural phenomenon known as gravity hill are most dramatic inside the on-site cabin. Note that the tour requires navigating forest paths that are not wheelchair or stroller accessible. Bring comfortable shoes for the walk. • What a fun place! Our guide was Michael--he made the experience a lot of fun and entertaining. The idea of defying gravity and balance was very clever! I wouldn't recommend this place for people...  more »
  • Really fun as an adult and my 7 year old nephew made me take him again a week later. Is it just a trick? Maybe... But who cares! It was fun and interesting and an adventure. Plus, I like the idea of a mystery staying a mystery.
  • This was a neat place to stop. You are allowed to take pictures but they tell you not to post them on any social media. There is a steep walk up to the cabin and it is difficult to walk through the cabin as well so I don't suggest this for anyone that has difficulty walking or standing for a period of time. They do not allow wheelchairs or strollers on the tour. This is a good place for families with children old enough to walk themselves without being carried. They have a gift shop and a geode excavation area also.
