Portland Japanese Garden sits nestled in the hills of Portland, overlooking the city and providing a tranquil, urban oasis for locals and travelers alike. Designed in 1963, it encompasses eight separate garden styles and includes an authentic Japanese tea house, meandering streams, intimate walkways, and a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. In 2017, the garden created the cultural village, a place where visitors can immerse themselves in traditional Japanese arts through seasonal activities, performances, and demonstrations. Finally, visitors can relax and refresh while at the umami cafe. Here, visitors can experience the pairing of Japanese tea with traditional gracious, attentive service, and delicious edible delights. Portland Japanese Garden Reviews
At $16.95 per adult, I thought the price was a little steep, but it is, indeed, a beautiful garden. If you have about 2 hours to spend here, the admission price is worth it. The grounds are very... more »
This garden is an oasis of tranquility and calm. It was so breathtaking in the winter that it makes me wonder what it will look like in the spring and summer. I will definitely return. My only... more »
Absolutely beautiful and tranquil Japanese garden. So many unique places to sit and soak in the beauty. Despite being busy, it was still quiet and there were places to pull aside and have a private moment. Very well maintained. Took about 2 hours to get through the garden. The tea house was also lovely but would recommend making a reservation or getting on the wait list before you start walking around.
It’s hard to find a place to begin to describe the full scope of greatness that the Gardens offers. It is a blend of incredible trees, bushes, paths, sculptures, water features, and serenity. You can come to traverse the grounds or simply sit and escape in meditation or thought. A must see....over and over. With its central location it’s very easy to get to. Wear some comfortable shoes since you the opportunity to take time and stroll around the grounds. All who wander are not lost.
