Strip District, Pittsburgh

#2 of 20 in Neighborhoods in Pennsylvania
Neighborhood · Other
Antique purveyors, outdoor food vendors, and craft stalls line the streets in Strip District, one of Pittsburgh's liveliest neighborhoods. The area originated as a bustling factory district in the early 19th century. Today many of the warehouses have been converted into small artisanal shops. Attracting serious foodies, the market boasts a variety of inexpensive ethnic grocers, selling everything from fresh pasta to Asian delicacies. Of particular note is the St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, one of the city’s oldest churches built in 1891 and a prime example of the ornate Polish Cathedral style. The market is busiest on the weekend, but if you want to avoid the crowds, it stays open throughout the week.
