The Ouray Ice Park was officially organized in 1992. Many of the ice routes are natural and existed long before the park's inception. Now, most ice is created by using a robust, extensive irrigation system that ensures vast amounts of frozen waterfalls along the nearly mile long Uncompahgre River Gorge.Put Ouray Ice Park and other Ouray attractions into our Ouray online vacation maker, and watch your holiday take shape.
The Park was established and is maintained by a small, seasonal staff and an enthusiastic volunteer work force. It is a qualified 401(c)(3) non-profit corporation that includes seven board members and an Executive Director. The Ice Park is able to operate and expand climbable terrain through the generous support of annual membership donations, corporate sponsorships, and funds raised by the annual Ouray Ice Festival.
The typical ice climbing season run from mid-December through April 1st.

Ouray is beautiful. Is my first time ever watching ice climbing and I was mesmerized. What a fantastic sport. Looks like a lot of fun. There are so much to do and see in ouray. Great accommodations and food everywhere. I highly recommend it to everyone. At least go visit and check it out.
Nice little trail! Could use some upkeep in some sections though. This part is free to access even though box canyon waterfall charges $5. You might have to park somewhere along the highway if the box canyon parking is full though. Some of the stairs on the trail are a little rundown. Ice is all melted for the season but still a beautiful little hike through the rocks with a view of the mountains! Dog friendly too. This is a loop hike that leads to a bridge that crosses the creek where you can see the dam too. Supposedly the loop trail on the west side is closed at some point due to fire mitigation but the nicer part of the trail with the views is on the east (highway side) anyways! If you have time, take the detour and follow the signs for the ouray perimeter trail. It will cross highway 550 and take you to the other side and take you up even higher for even nicer views!
