Belmont Mansion, also known as Acklen Hall, and originally known as Belle Monte, Belle Mont or Belmont, is a historic mansion located in Nashville, Tennessee. It was built by Joseph and Adelicia Acklen to serve as the center of their 180-acre summer estate in what was then country outside the city, and featured elaborate gardens and a zoo. They lived much of the rest of the year on her plantations in Louisiana.Using our custom trip planner, Nashville attractions like Belmont Mansion can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
The estate was sold in the late 19th century and since 1890 has been used for educational functions. It was first used as a girls academy, then as the first building of what became Belmont College and now Belmont University. Today it is operated as a museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

Great tour! I expected to get some knowledge of the structure and all the stuff inside, but it turned out to be an informative story of a strong independent woman and her family. Filled with facts and examples of what it's was like way back then. Highly recommend!! Oh... Not to mention they have the cutest little giftshop with a wide variety of souvenirs. All the staff very kind and nice.
We really enjoyed our visit to the Belmont mansion. I love architecture, and the Italianate style is one of my favorites. The tour guide was knowledgeable and thorough, easy to understand. I feel like we actually got more out of this than we did Andrew Jackson's Hermitage. It's always fascinating to dive back into history and find out how people lived and worked, and realize that they shared many of the same personal struggles as we do today, in spite of the lack of technological advances.
