Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens, Naples

4.1
#2 of 7 in Zoos & Aquariums in Southwest Gulf Coast
Zoo · Zoo / Aquarium
Once a private garden for botanist Dr. Henry Nehrling, Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens opened as a zoo in 1969. Most of the original garden plan remains, and the zoo's pathways meander through thick Caribbean foliage. The main pathway is about 1.6 km (1 mi) with exhibits lining either side. Consider purchasing a ticket for the primate cruise on the man-made lake in the center of the park. The zoo's primate inhabitants populate the islands in the middle of the lake, and a ride on the catamaran is the only way to view them. Alligator Bay is home to the American alligator species. Check presentation times at the reception area to see the beasts during their feeding time. • It's a small zoo. I went first thing in the morning and a couple of the big cats weren't on display (The tiger and cheetah), other animals were sleeping out of view. The primate cruise was nice...  more »
  • We went to the zoo on Saturday free as a resident. This is provided once a month for residents. You have to sign up on line & then produce proof of “ownership” when arriving. Overall a waste of...  more »

  • We always love coming to this zoo when we are visiting Florida to see the different animals and hear updates on what this zoo is doing with their conservation programs and animals. The keeper talks are great to make it to, to learn more about the care and habits of a specific animal and to be able to ask questions. The shows in the Safari theater are fun as well, you get to see some animals and hear more about them. It's always a different theme. This isn't a big zoo, but they definitely have some great animals, a ton of exotic plants and trees that are all labeled, and fun experiences that I feel make it worth the visit. Everything is outdoor, so plan accordingly.
  • The Naples Zoo isn't flashy, but it has a wonderful array of beautiful, well cared for animals. There are bears, lions, gibbons, monkeys, bongos, gazelles, giraffes, zebras and a lot of birds. It was fun to feed the giraffe, and take the boat ride around their Lake Victoria. What made this modest zoo stand out were the staff. Cheerful, warm and committed, they care about both the animal residents and the visitors. I just found that made the difference. Highly recommended.
