The Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve 39400 Clinton Keith Road is located at the southern end of the Santa Ana Mountains in southwest Riverside County, near the city of Murrieta, 92562.For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Murrieta holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
The Reserve consists of 8,300 acres and protects unique ecosystems like Engelmann oak woodlands, riparian wetlands, coastal sage scrub, chaparral, bunchgrass prairie and vernal pools.
Visitors to the Reserve can enjoy the oldest standing structures in Riverside County that once served as bunkhouses for cowboys dating back to 1846. These two adobe structures remain shaded by a 400 year old tree and separated by a relaxing, one-of-a-kind, picnic area.
Other recreational activities include hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and attending interpretive programs. (Horseback riding and mountain biking are restricted to the Sylvan Meadows Multi-Use Area of the Plateau.)

After a few days of rain everything turns green up here. So nice to see and walk through. We are only a few miles away and had never taken the hike. Our neighbors recommended it and we were glad we... more »
I enjoy this beautiful reserve so much I volunteer here. I've hiked the majority of this reserve encountering bobcats, deer, coyotes, hawks, snakes, tarantulas, and many other creatures. The views of mountains to the east are amazing in the winter months, the vernal pools in the spring add water fowl to the list of wildlife to be enjoyed, and Monument Hill offers a view of the Pacific on clear days. I especially enjoy early morning here.
Santa Rosa Plateau is such a gem! The trails are pretty family friendly. Very, very clean and maintained and they aren't far from where we live. Make sure to bring water and wear comfy shoes and long pants because we did see a few creepy crawlies that didn't look the friendliest. Make this a must do when you are in the area. You won't be disappointed.
