Colorado Gators Reptile Park, Mosca

#3 of 6 in Things to do in Mosca
Colorado Gators Reptile Park was opened to the public in 1990, in Mosca, Colorado, United States. Located 17 miles (27 km) north of Alamosa, Colorado, it started as a tilapia farm in 1977, and now includes a bird sanctuary, reptile rescue, education, and display, and a biodome.
A geothermal well on the property creates ponds and wetlands for the alligators, but also provides habitat and food for many water-birds and waterfowl. The "Two Mile Creek Wildlife Habitat" lets visitors view alligators, reptiles, and birds in a natural setting, and to go fishing, boating, and picnicking. Over 125 species of birds have been sighted at the farm.

  • Great place to visit and learn about alligators and other reptiles. I opted for the gator wrestling class. You don't actually wrestle gators. You help catch them, inspect them for wounds, and apply antibiotic to any wounds they have. Drew was the guy who did the class. He did a fantastic job of teaching me how to properly catch and handle gators. While handling Gators is never completely safe, I never felt that I was in excessive danger. My wife and I had a lot of fun. It was an amazing experience. And I absolutely love that they rescue gators and give them homes.
  • This place was awesome! It was not too far from our hotel, so we stopped in after seeing all the signs. We weren't disappointed! The staff was very friendly and helpful, including a young boy that we assumed was related to someone working there. :) We saw all kinds of animals and fish, not just alligators. They also let you hold "Gus", a baby alligator, and have your picture taken as well. Good times!
