Morro Rock, Morro Bay

Must see · Geologic Formation · Nature / Park
Known as the Gibraltar of the Pacific, Morro Rock is one of California's most recognizable geological phenomenon. More than 23 million years old, the rock is a remnant of long-gone volcanic activity. Spanish explorers of the Pacific coast came across the rock, and mariners used it as a navigation point for centuries. Peregrine falcons and other bird species breed here, and sea otters frequent the spot. Climbing the rock is forbidden to anyone except the members of local Salinan and Chumash tribes, who consider the rock as a sacred site. A causeway connects the rock with the nearby beach. • Check it out. Big Rock, can't miss it. And you shouldn't. 🙂 Baywatch beach, cool caves, fun trail around the rock. Rock is not climbable.  more »
  • Beautiful at sunset - a must see walking along the wharf. Noisy seals were fun too. Make reservations for dinner if you’d like a sit down place  more »

  • Grew up in the area during the summer, it's always been a part of my life. I love it here
  • Great place to visit when visiting the San Luis Obispo area. Beautiful coastline, windy beaches perfect for reading a book, chilly water, and gorgeous views. Very famous landmark of the area.
