The Old Pogue Distillery, Maysville

#2 of 6 in Things to do in Maysville
Distillery · Hidden Gem · Food & Drink
Carrying on a tradition since the Civil War, the Pogue Distillery has maintained a legacy of the finest Kentucky bourbon. Although temporarily disrupted during Prohibition, the production of our top-quality, small batch quality bourbon stands strong and continues amongst the fourth and fifth generations. Our current Master's Select edition has been met to critical acclaim, and we anticipate many new - and traditional - recipes to follow.

  • Great story of how the family revived the business and located it at the original home. The guide was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The product is a bit pricey, but that comes with the rarity. The only con here is the driveway and parking, which there's not a lot that can be done. Google maps suggests coming in from Germantown Rd, but would be better to approach from the bottom (W 2nd St) since that is closer to parking.
  • My dad and I dropped in here after a funeral, and this place brightened our spirits. If you're heading here, I would come up the bottom entrance and avoid the scary drop in entrance. We passed an Old Pogue Distillery sign not knowing that was the entrance. We survived the upper entrance to find a couple on their tour. The tour guide was nice enough to let us join them without reservations. The master distiller stopped what he was doing to talk to us. It turned out to be 6th generation, Mr. Pogue himself. We tasted and bought a bottle. We took the bottom ramp, which was pretty harrowing too. Overall, we had a great time.
