Must see · Historic Site · Landmark
Civil War veteran Samuel P. Dinsmoor built this visionary art environment, a stone log cabin surrounded by three-story concrete sculptures. His political views take the form of dimensional tableus, a sort of 3D political cartoon, reflecting his Populist Party leanings and Masonic background. Built from 1905 through the 1930s, this National Register of Historic Places site is nationally recognized example of vernacular art and architecture.

  • Such an interesting visit! What a fascinating man who left truly intriguing sculptures! I love the concept of "grassroots art." Definitely worth an hour of your time and very affordable prices for entry and souvenirs. Definitely get the guided tour, and if you're lucky you'll get Mary Anne, the Dinsmoor's great niece!
  • Participated in a ghost hunt here as well as sight seeing. Would do it again in a heartbeat. The historical commenter was extremely knowledgeable and informative. Very interesting history. It helps that she is also related on both sides of the family of the creator of this house. All the buildings and statues tell a story of what and how this man thinks and what his beliefs were. It's an amazing tour. Terry and the other ghost hunters and researchers were very nice and knowledgeable not only about the history of the house but on so many other topics that were related to the story of the house which made it even more interesting.
