Admire the architecture and artwork at Nebraska State Capitol. Both the inside and the outside of the 120 m (400 ft) capitol are adorned with symbolic friezes, mosaics, and murals that depict both the world and the Nebraskan heritage. The tower provides excellent views of Lincoln and is capped by a reflective, golden dome that features a 5.8 m (19 ft) sculpture of the Sower. The building offers many amenities, including a cafeteria, gift shop with Nebraska-related books and memorabilia, restrooms, and a private room for mothers with children. Free guided tours of the capitol are readily available. We love visiting capitols and were impressed with Nebraska’s. This building has tons of character and art work, friendly staff and beautiful architecture. The view from the observation level is awesome! The tour guide had lots of information.
As someone who works in state government and has a Masters in government, the experience was personally and professionally satisfying. The grounds were a little drab in the winter cold, but the building itself is pretty magnificent. We went in on a Saturday afternoon, and no one was around. The inside is spectacular, like the inside of an old Roman church. It reminded me of grand Armenian churches I've visited in the countrysides outside of Yerevan, with the stone work and art work. It offered a unique opportunity to "explore," taking the antique elevators up the tower, going through side hallways and getting views from various angles.
