Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area are a series of canyons noted for their sandstone peaks and steep rock walls. The rugged rock formations rise up to 910 m (3,000 ft), making them a popular hiking and rock-climbing destination. You can explore most of this area via the 21 km (13 mi) one-way loop road, from which you can access numerous parking areas, picnic zones, and hiking and mountain-biking trails. Begin with a stop at the visitor center at the start of the loop road. Keep in mind that the trails usually start with an easy to moderate climb and become increasingly difficult as you progress to the top. I came here to hike alone without doing any prior research, so I was a bit nervous. The park rangers were very helpful. The scenery was lovely. The trails were fairly well marked. The parking was easy and convenient. There are lots of bathrooms spaced all around the park. They have an amazing gift shop and museum area. I did the sandstone trail and it was about 2.4 miles round trip. You walk in and walk back the same way you came in. It's a moderate hike. Just perfect for exercise but not being too strenuous.
It took 2-3 hours to see. Except for the hard weather, the visit was very meaningful. The map I received from the visitor center was useful. A fee of $ 15 is charged per car. There are spots where you can take pictures and see the scenery. It is a good idea to bring some water and snacks in advance. There was a vending machine in the visitor center, but the snack vending machine did not work.
