Trip Planner: USA / North Carolina / North Carolina Coast / Outer Banks / Kitty Hawk / Duck Woods Country Club
Duck Woods Country Club began in the mid-60’s under the original name of Outer Banks Recreation Association and Duck Woods Golf Course. Only through the diligent and enthusiastic energies of a small group of local businessmen did the dream of providing a golf course and recreational facilities on the Outer Banks become a reality.Plan a Kitty Hawk trip in moments using our itinerary builder.
The 250+ acre tract of land, a gift donated by Kitty Hawk Land Company in 1964, in conjunction with a FHA loan, which was granted after the requirement of 300 rural members was met, gave life to the dream. In May 1967, construction contracts were awarded to build the golf course by famed architect Ellis Maples, by November 1968, Duck Woods Golf Course celebrated with a dedication ceremony, and June 8, 1969 play began.
In 1986, the association with the FHA was severed thereby allowing for the rewriting of the by-laws, changing some Articles of Incorporation, and a new name. By 1988, the Board of Directors presented and the membership accepted revised by-laws and the new name. Thus the “dream” evolved to the present day Duck Woods Country Club.
In the fall of 2005, we reached another historic milestone with the Grand Opening of our spectacular new clubhouse. Duck Woods Country Club will continue to provide the finest amenities and offerings to enhance the lives of the members and guests of the facility.

Challenging but fun course. Water comes into play on almost every hole. We played with a group of 12 and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Bushwood reincarnated. Public golf courses like Carolina Club and Kilmarlic are nicer tracks with comparable amenities. Positives - chicken salad and the clubhouse building Negatives - 1) below average layout with skanky water everywhere. Honestly all water features (ponds, creeks, etc) look like breeding ground for cholera. Don’t worry about snakes, even they can’t survive in the oxygen starved swamps of Duck Woods. 2) no hard liquor is allowed on the course or outside of the clubhouse, Beers are allowed, but no coolers are on the cart. Staff puts them in a bag with ice. 3) below average driving range and putting green. Truthfully if you come to OBX to play golf there are much better options at comparable prices.
