Ulster Performing Arts Center, Kingston

#7 of 18 in Nightlife in Catskill Region
Performance · Concert / Show
UPAC is governed by the Bardavon 1869 Opera House Board of Directors and a full time staff of 23 plus over 150 volunteers. Since the theater derives only 50% of its income from ticket sales, it must rely upon the support of individuals, businesses, foundations and government to operate.

In 2006 Poughkeepsie's Bardavon Opera House took over the management of UPAC and in 2007 UPAC officially merged with the Bardavon. Today, the Ulster Performing Arts Center's historic Broadway Theater has emerged once again as a premier performing arts venue of the Hudson Valley , open year-round to present a diverse season of superb productions, including national and international headliners in music, dance, theater and more. With a 1500-seat capacity, it remains the largest proscenium theater between Manhattan and Albany.

  • We went to our gtandaughter's dance recital. I enjoy older venues because they have character. We had no trouble parking and there are many nice restaurants to dine at in Kingston.  more »
  • Excellent for music, we went for a concert, and it was terrific. Helpful staff, and a lovely classic setting  more »
  • Absolutely beautiful venue! Great restoration! Helpful employees! Only issue is with the fact that there really isn't any parking except for on the street, although there is a municipal lot down the street we were told. No signs for it that we saw.
  • Went to see Whose Line is it Anyway? I have been to UPAC many times before for music acts, which were generally awesome. I couple things were wrong about one. The sound just wasn't clear, which is tough when the show is based on quick wit, puns and other things you must hear to enjoy. Also, sitting on row U in the orchestra, I found myself at the same level and directly behind the gentleman in front of me. He wasn't especially tall and I'm not especially short, but I couldn't see 80% of the stage. Great show nevertheless, and I will still return for awesome acts (just avoiding that same seat/row).
