Historic Site · Visitor Center
Fordyce Bathhouse offers a glimpse into the history of water therapy in the United States within an opulent Renaissance Revival setting. Step into the marble-lined lobby edged with fountains and paved with ceramic floor tiles. The bathhouse was part of the original bathhouse row that Hot Springs grew out of due to the discovery of mineral-rich thermal springs in the early 1800s. The fountains in the lobby once spouted this mineral-rich water constantly. Examine the intricate, stained-glass ceiling of the men's changing room, festooned with mermaids, fish, and bubbles. You can watch a short film outlining the traditional bath routine and also see the music room, which has an intricately patterned tile floor and stained-glass ceiling. • First off, here's your spot for a public restroom and a rest in the AC. Lovely building, marble stairs, brass fixtures, decorative tile floors, stained glass ceilings, antique bathroom fixtures. Working modern elevator but with an antique interior and outer doors. Antique beauty parlor and gymnasium. If you have any interest in physical therapy you'll find a lot of vintage therapy devices. Self guided or with a guide.
  • It's an old bathhouse which has been preserved as a free museum. You can sit, in a rocker, on front porch looking at Bathhouse Row~like back in the day. This is good for visitors to walk through and see how bathhouses operated back then. It's good for children, or anyone, as it's a self guided free tour & learn some history! :)
