The largest working paleontological site, Mammoth Site of Hot Springs has unearthed nearly 70 Woolly and Columbian mammoths. The remains of 85 other species from the Ice Age have been discovered here as well. Your visit begins with a short video describing the history and discovery of the site, followed by a 30-minute guided tour. After the tour, explore the Ice Age Exhibit Hall. Windows into the paleontology lab give you a peek into the process of uncovering these remains. For more information on geology, mammoths, or the people and animals that lived during the Ice Age, catch one of the many short films shown throughout the museum. • So very cool. Wish we had more time to just stay and geek out. Building is built over the dig site. You can actually see the skeletons that are being uncovered! The lab was fun, seeing the processes used on the unearthed items. Will be back when we have a LOT more time to spend here.
  • Fantastic place to visit. Everyone enjoyed the exhibits. It was exciting to see so many mammoths in one area. It is an active dig site with many fossils to view. Go any time since everything is indoors. Our visit was several years ago when I did not complete reviews on Google. The dig site may have changed from the pictures.
