Tour · Scenic Railroad
Travel through the Rockies on Georgetown Loop Railroad, a narrow-gauge heritage railroad providing scenic tours between two historical silver mining towns. The railroad route ascends an elevation of nearly 200 m (600 ft) and winds its way through a picturesque mountain terrain for just over 4 km (7 mi). One of Colorado's very first tourist attractions, this railroad ranked among the major engineering marvels of its time during the late 1800s. The route features horseshoe curves, grades of up to 4 percent, and four bridges spanning a steep and narrow river canyon. You can pair the train ride with an optional walking tour of a 19th-century silver mine, located at the halfway point of the railroad route. Check online for operating dates and ticket rates. • Right when we arrived, it began to snow. It was like being in a snow globe. This is an experience my wife and I will always remember. Highly recommend.  more »
  • If you're ever in the Colorado mountains and have some spare time I highly recommend checking this out. Take a nice, relaxing ride on an old steam locomotive through one of the most scenic places around. Very enjoyable for everyone from small children to older folks. Who doesn't love old trains?
  • This was awesome! Breathtaking views are the highlight of this short train ride. Be sure to plan ahead to take the 90+ year old 2-8-0 steam engine. Very informative as well. Nice facilities, great gift shop with reasonable prices and some of the friendliest staff you'll find anywhere. Would give more stars if able.
