Landmark · Tourist Spot
Old tree growth that once shaded the town's Victorian homes was destroyed by Hurricane Ike. Tree Sculptures are a grassroots effort to resurrect the trees with art. Sculpted tree trunks are scattered around the neighborhood between new saplings. Many of the sculptures have a special significance for the people living in the Galveston community, such as Marcy Hanson's tree sculpture of an angel cradling a rabbit, which commemorates her bunny sanctuary. Stop by the Convention and Visitors Bureau first for a brochure that includes a list of the sculptures and a map of their locations. • Wonderful walking tour of Galveston. Treasure hunt feeling as you search out the tree sculptures. Recommend getting map at welcome center before starting out.
