Rising steeply to the east of the city of Fremont, Mission and Monument peaks form a dramatic backdrop to the South Bay. The determined and conditioned hiker who reaches the top of Mission Peak will be rewarded with views of Mount Hamilton to the south, the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west, Mt. Tamalpais to the north, and Mt. Diablo and the Sierra Nevada to the northeast.
This is a very popular park, particularly on weekends, with hundreds of visitors attempting the 3-plus-mile hike to Mission Peak. About five hours are required to reach the summit and return. This parkland's 3,000 acres are accessible from parking lots at Ohlone College (slightly longer hike, but more gradual ascent; plenty of parking on weekends) or from a small staging area at the east end of Stanford Avenue in Fremont (steep climb to the summit; parking lot is extremely congested on weekends). There is no access to the park from Mill Creek Road.

I sure will visit again. I did noticed that there are few (should be more) mature trees, I am assuming due to previous fire ??? Looking at the soil, it has suffered tremendously. I enjoyed the... more »

This is a nice uphill hike (and of course down again) to Mission PeaK. Once one gets to the top there are gorgeous views. There is a parking lot on Stanford Avenue where the hike begins. more »

Really fun trail, especially if you follow it all the way to the top for it's beautiful view. The hike is a couple hours walking, and a bit quicker running. That being said, it's a long steep hike, so bring water. There are plenty of stops along the way to eat snacks and drinks water as well while you rest. If you arrive around 3-4 AM you also will have the opportunity to see the sunrise, which is absolutely gorgeous.

It's beautiful, the hike isn't that bad, takes a couple hours though, the top gets a bit steap. I would recommend going early in the morning when it's cool though to beat the heat! Also if it's not just clear sky's, I recon the cloud layer ads a ton of character. Oh, and you can see SF in the distance from the top ^^
