Monocacy National Battlefield is a unit of the National Park Service, the site of the Battle of Monocacy in the American Civil War fought on July 9, 1864. The battlefield straddles the Monocacy River southeast of the city of Frederick, Maryland. The battle, labeled "The Battle That Saved Washington," was one of the last the Confederates would carry out in Union territory. The two opposing leaders were General Jubal Early, fighting for the South, and General Lew Wallace, fighting for the North.Plan my Frederick trip by asking Inpirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

Really nice and knowledgeable park rangers. They went out of their way to answer questions completely. Very scenic. Well maintained. Enough parking when we were there. If history is your thing or you just want somewhere peaceful with nice scenery, I recommend.
National Parks are great! This is not a big one, but there's plenty to see and well worth a visit if battlefields are your thing. Rangers were helpful and were able to answer all our questions. Visitor center isn't much, but stop in for a map and to get some background on what happened here and why. Plenty of nice hikes to explore the area. An enjoyable outing!
