What is Craft Beer?Plan your Skull Camp Brewery visit and explore what else you can see and do in Elkin using our Elkin trip builder tool.
Beers made by small, independent brewers with only traditional brewing ingredients such as malt, hops, yeast and water, and brewed with traditional brewing methods. These breweries and their brewers are passionate about their craft and are dedicated to producing quality beers that are unique and are guaranteed to take your beer drinking experience to the next level of enjoyment.
In July of 2011, a group of friends who love craft beer, decided to come together and pursue an opportunity to bring craft beer to their community. The lack of accessible craft beers in Mt. Airy and surrounding areas, gave that group a desire to provide our area with more than just craft beer, but a craft beer experience!
Owners of Round Peak Vineyards Ken Gulaian and Kari Heerdt, have partnered with brewer Jeff Leftwich to form Skull Camp Brewing. We are all very excited to share our love of the craft beer world and all its many styles with our community!
On June 13th 2014 we opened our doors to our new 10-bbl brewery in Elkin after brewing on a much much smaller system for 2 years.
Skull Camp beers are be available at Round Peak and at Skull Camp Brewery for tasting and by glass or growler.

I pulled off the highway hoping to find a beer and maybe lunch and stumbled upon this absolute gem. The people in Elkin are super friendly (especially compared to Boston and Atlanta). They have tons of beer that you can order large jugs of to go. They had the best onion rings (like skinny donuts). The pulled pork was incredible. The service was outstanding. Nice people at the bar. Wine list too. I was told the Hampton Inn is the best place to stay if you visit.

My wife and I visited a couple weeks ago when we were camping at nearby Stone Mountain State Park. We had our dogs with and weren’t sure if they were dog friendly, but they were super welcoming and very accommodating. We wanted to sit outside in the shade, and since we were the only ones outside on this hot earlier afternoon they turned the fans on, got us water for our dogs, and made us feel so welcome! Raechel was our main server and she was awesome! Checked on us and made sure we were always taken care of. One of the best servers we have come across in a long time. All the workers at Skull Camp were super nice as we’ll Highly recommended experience and great tasty beers and ciders. We weren’t super hungry, but as you can see in the pictures we really enjoyed the BBQ Brisket app special. Huge plate for only $7.95. We are so glad we spent part of our vacation with Skull Camp and will be back!
