  • It's a short walk to the dunes from the parking lot. There is RV parking if you need it. If you take the dunes to the right, fewer people go that way and there are fewer foot prints. Sand is tough to....  more »

  • Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. An amazing, beautiful and unique place. Death Valley in general is such a special location. This is where we can experience a walk in the soft sand, though walking long distances in morning or evening is recommended here preferably not in afternoon to avoid heat damage to us. As obviously this place overall is very very hot. Avoid in Summer if possible.
  • What an amazing place! The kids enjoyed trying to climb up the dunes. I thought they were simply beautiful. It was a cold day in August, we started at 105 and by time we got back it was 108 and we were happy the ac in the car kicked in quickly. I wish we went at sunrise or set. Bring plenty of water and sneakers. Even though there was obviously sand everywhere, the sand was too hot to touch and if we had sandals on I don’t think we would have made it as far as we did. If we went in the morning we could have easily made it to the highest dune. Would love to come back in the winter or spring. We also saw tracks of many animals.
